We looked at the 298 cafes and coffee shops with a public Google rating and an address in North Yorkshire (checked 4 October 2026). Every figure below is counted from those listings. Nothing is estimated.
What kinds of place are they?
Google files each listing under a category. The most common:
- Cafe: 146
- Coffee shop: 98
- Tea room: 10
- Bakery: 8
- Breakfast restaurant: 7
- Tea and coffee shop: 3
- Bar: 2
- Deli: 2
How well are they rated?
The middle (median) rating is 4.7 stars. By band:
- 4.5 or higher: 214
- 4.0 to 4.4: 70
- 3.5 to 3.9: 10
- below 3.5: 4
How many reviews?
Between them they have 117,452 Google reviews. The most reviewed is Magpie Café with 9,522 (rated 4.6). The median is 159 reviews per listing, and 56 have fewer than 50, which is too few to say much about.
Food hygiene
We could match 197 of them to the Food Standards Agency register. 164 of those hold the top rating of 5, and 8 hold a 2 or lower. Hygiene ratings are the council inspector's, not Google's, and can be out of date.
