Market days

North Yorkshire Council's markets directory lists markets by former district area: Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Ryedale, Scarborough and Selby, as well as Richmondshire. Days below are as published; check the council's market page for changes, bank holidays and weather.

Harrogate and Ripon (Harrogate area)

• Harrogate farmers' market: second Thursday of every month.
• Ripon market: every Thursday from 7.30am until 3pm, with a smaller market every Saturday from 7.30am until 2pm.
• Knaresborough market: every Wednesday from 7.30am until 3pm throughout the year, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
• Masham market: every Wednesday, Saturday and bank holiday Monday.

Skipton (Craven area)

• Skipton market: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
• Skipton artisan market: first Sunday of the month.
• Nearby: Settle market on Tuesdays and Grassington farmers' market on the third Sunday of the month.

Scarborough and Whitby (Scarborough area)

• Scarborough Market Hall and Vaults: open Monday to Saturday from 8am until 5pm.
• Whitby market: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year, subject to weather conditions.

Northallerton (Hambleton area)

• Northallerton market: every Wednesday and Saturday.
• Nearby: Thirsk market every Monday and Saturday, including bank holidays; Bedale market on Tuesdays; Stokesley market on Fridays and its farmers' market on the first Saturday of each month; Easingwold market on Fridays.

Selby (Selby area)

• Selby market: Mondays.
• Selby farmers market: third Saturday of every month.
• Nearby: Tadcaster market on Thursdays.

Malton (Ryedale area)

• Malton market: every Saturday, with two livestock markets on Tuesday and Friday each week and regular farmers' markets.
• Nearby: Pickering market on Mondays, Helmsley on Fridays and Kirkbymoorside on Wednesdays.

Events the council lists

The council's events page covers events in North Yorkshire and planning an event, and its festivals and events page lists what it puts on or supports this year, including:

• Scarborough Fair, a year-round programme of arts, heritage and sporting events at venues across the town, with full details on its own website (scarboroughfair.uk).
• Filey Food Festival, held in April, June, August and October with free admission.
• Moonlight on the Lake, a lantern-lit evening in Peasholm Park, Scarborough, on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, staged by Animated Objects and the council.

The council's summer concerts are free Sunday afternoon performances by bands, choirs and musical groups, 2pm to 4pm from the end of May to the beginning of September, in the Harrogate area and Peasholm Park, Scarborough. The Stray in Harrogate hosts two fairs a year, over the Spring and August bank holidays, according to the council's page on the park.

Individual venues publish their own programmes (Harrogate Convention Centre, theatres, museums and castles), as do town councils and tourism bodies. We do not list commercial event calendars here. If an event matters to you, confirm dates with the organiser, since the council's pages cover only what it runs or supports.
