How the stations are run

North Yorkshire has several rail operators. The National Rail station pages show who manages each station: Northern manages Harrogate, Skipton and Whitby, while TransPennine Express manages Scarborough, Northallerton, Selby and Malton. Other operators call at some of them: LNER's destinations page lists "London to Harrogate" among its popular routes, for example. For train times and fares, use National Rail Enquiries or the operator's site, since timetables and engineering works change often. The details below are the station facts published on the National Rail and Northern pages when this guide was checked.

Harrogate

Harrogate station, Station Parade, HG1 1TE. Managed by Northern. National Rail lists the ticket office Monday to Saturday 06:15 to 19:00 and Sunday 09:15 to 18:00. The station car park has 117 spaces; Northern's page lists a daily charge of £6.60. A shopping precinct and a pub adjoin the platforms, and rail replacement buses use Station Parade (A61) outside the car park.

Scarborough

Scarborough station, Westborough, YO11 1TN. Managed by TransPennine Express. Ticket office Monday to Saturday 06:15 to 20:00, Sunday 08:30 to 20:00. The car park has 84 spaces; Northern's page lists a daily charge of £6.20.

Skipton

Skipton station, Broughton Road, BD23 1RT. Managed by Northern. Ticket office Monday to Saturday 05:50 to 18:20 and Sunday 09:00 to 16:30. The car park has 100 spaces; Northern's page lists a daily charge of £6.60.

Whitby

Whitby station, Station Square, YO21 1YN. Managed by Northern. National Rail lists the ticket office Monday to Saturday 08:30 to 16:00 and Sunday unavailable, with 48 car parking spaces. Northern's station page marks the station as unstaffed, which seems at odds with the ticket office hours, so confirm before you rely on it. Rail replacement buses use the stop on Langbourne Road by the Co-op.

Northallerton

Northallerton station, Boroughbridge Road, DL7 8AN. Managed by TransPennine Express. Ticket office Monday to Saturday 05:30 to 18:30 and Sunday 09:00 to 18:30. National Rail lists 272 parking spaces, step-free access to all platforms and lifts.

Selby

Selby station, Station Road, YO8 4NW. Managed by TransPennine Express. Ticket office Monday to Saturday 06:00 to 19:45, Sunday 09:15 to 19:00 (staff help Sunday to 19:00). The car park has 130 spaces. Northern's page mentions alternative parking at Back Micklegate car park, open 24 hours with 198 spaces, and a new car park planned on Cowie Drive in autumn 2027.

Malton

Malton station, Railway Street, YO17 9RD. Managed by TransPennine Express. Ticket office Monday to Saturday 06:30 to 19:30 and Sunday 09:00 to 17:30. There are 39 parking spaces. National Rail lists step-free access to all platforms but no lifts.

Ripon

For Ripon, see our bus guide: the Harrogate Bus Company's route 36 links Ripon with Harrogate, where there is a station. Use the National Rail journey planner for the best option.

City of York

York station is in the City of York, a separate council area, and is the main interchange for many journeys from Selby and Malton. Use National Rail for York timetables.

Tickets and help

Station pages list help points, passenger assistance and accessibility. For disabled access, check each station's page before you travel, as facilities vary.
