Restaurants in North Yorkshire by the Numbers: Ratings, Reviews and Types
154 restaurants counted from their Google listings: what kinds there are, how they are rated and how many reviews they have.
We looked at the 154 restaurants with a public Google rating and an address in North Yorkshire (checked 4 October 2026). Every figure below is counted from those listings. Nothing is estimated.
What kinds of place are they?
Google files each listing under a category. The most common:
- Restaurant: 53
- Italian restaurant: 11
- Bistro: 8
- Modern British restaurant: 6
- Indian restaurant: 6
- Turkish restaurant: 6
- Mediterranean restaurant: 5
- Fine dining restaurant: 4
How well are they rated?
The middle (median) rating is 4.6 stars. By band:
- 4.5 or higher: 104
- 4.0 to 4.4: 41
- 3.5 to 3.9: 8
- below 3.5: 1
How many reviews?
Between them they have 69,450 Google reviews. The most reviewed is The Dolphin with 2,540 (rated 4.2). The median is 282 reviews per listing, and 28 have fewer than 50, which is too few to say much about.
Food hygiene
We could match 102 of them to the Food Standards Agency register. 71 of those hold the top rating of 5, and 7 hold a 2 or lower. Hygiene ratings are the council inspector's, not Google's, and can be out of date.
Method
Source: each business's Google Maps listing (4 October 2026). Ratings and review counts move daily, so treat this as a snapshot. See the best-of rankings for how we order them, and the full list.
